Identify Keywords That Your Audience is Looking For
To even capture the attention of your ideal reader, you need to figure out what keywords that audience is searching the internet for. You can use tools like the Google keyword research tool, SEMrush, Moz, and more, to find keywords and related keywords. This will help relevant people find your information, which in turn will lead to more conversions. It’s all about getting the correct audience to begin with. Step one is getting eyeballs on your article in search results, which is done through keywords and SEO! Then your writing and the content itself will keep them there.
Optimize for SEO
Speaking of which, you need to optimize your blog for SEO. Some of this has to do with finding the right keywords and using them in an SEO-optimized fashion. Otherwise, you will need to follow other SEO best practices. That is a whole other article worth of information, however, so suffice it to say that that includes things like image alt tags, H2 and H3 headings, and the right keyword density.
Create an Eye-Catching Title
Us humans are attracted by scandal, sensationalism, and frankly, clickbait. Don’t clickbait your readers by lying to them, but make sure to hype up whatever it is you’re writing about, or hook readers in with a crazy fact or question. “How to Write a Blog That Converts” was the working title for this post, but “If You’re Not Writing Blogs This Way, You’re Missing Out on Conversions” seemed like a more attention-grabbing statement, to say the least!
Include Lead Magnets
Blogs are content, and content generally does not generate a sale immediately. It’s a long game, and you need to know the rules of the long game! Lead magnets are ways to get leads easily, who may eventually turn into conversions. Your lead magnet could be a free download of an ebook, or some other piece of useful knowledge. All the reader needs to give is their email, but in a world of rampant email spam that has a higher value than you may think. Once they sign up for your newsletter through this lead magnet, you can start leading them toward sales.
Include a Clear Call to Action
Don’t make your readers figure out what you want them to do. Your blogs shouldn’t confuse anyone, and should point to the one action that you want someone to take. That being said, include a clear call-to-action in all of your blogs! This can be something simple like taking a look at a product page, or something more demanding like watching a video, listening to a podcast, or signing up for an online course.
